{"id":17,"date":"2010-03-04T03:02:38","date_gmt":"2010-03-04T08:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.philippelavalette.com.php5-8.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com\/?p=17"},"modified":"2013-05-06T14:10:48","modified_gmt":"2013-05-06T19:10:48","slug":"director-of-photography-biography","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.philippelavalette.com\/en\/director-of-photography-biography\/","title":{"rendered":"Biography"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.philippelavalette.com\/en\/director-of-photography-biography\/img_6341-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-84\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.philippelavalette.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/A\u00e4ton-connection-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1464\" alt=\"A\u00e4ton connection 1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.philippelavalette.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/A\u00e4ton-connection-1-590x442.jpg\" width=\"590\" height=\"442\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.philippelavalette.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/A\u00e4ton-connection-1-590x442.jpg 590w, https:\/\/www.philippelavalette.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/A\u00e4ton-connection-1-950x712.jpg 950w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/><\/a><\/a>Trained at the Louis Lumi\u00e8re School in Paris, Philippe Lavalette made his start as a cinematographer in the world of experimental films, most notably with \u201cl\u2019Ange\u201d (Patrick Bokanowski, 1982), a visual poem of great delicacy for which he received a Cam\u00e9ra d\u2019Or nomination at Cannes.<\/p>\n<p>His interests then turned to science, and in association with the CNRS, the French research institute, he directed and photographed a number of scientific film projects.<\/p>\n<p>On his arrival in Quebec, Lavalette applied his skills to a series of groundbreaking personal documentaries, including \u201cLes Enfants du Refus Global\u201d and \u201cDe m\u00e9moire de chats \u2013 Les ruelles\u201d of Manon Barbeau, Prix G\u00e9meau 2005 for best photography, or \u201cLa Griffe Magique\u201d and \u201cVisionaries\u201d of Carlos Ferrand, for which he was awarded the prize for best cinematography at Hot Docs in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>Lavalette has frequently adapted his documentary approach to fiction, and his innovative style has contributed to the unusual nature of a number of feature films and films for television. We need only cite \u201cLes Pots Cass\u00e9s\u201d of Fran\u00e7ois Bouvier, \u201cHugo and the Dragon\u201d of Philippe Baylaucq, and more recently \u201cLa Brunante\u201d of Fernand Dansereau and \u201cLe Ring\u201d of Ana\u00efs Barbeau-Lavalette selected at Plus Camerimage (Lodz, Polaud) prestigious festival dedicated to cinematography.
